Because Apple’s newest lineup of devices, including the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max, do not have a Home button and instead have new Side buttons with unique functionality, the company has developed a new method for forcing a quick restart on these devices.
The only way to force restart your iPhone is to press a specific combination of buttons at the same time. While this isn’t immediately obvious, once you’ve learned the steps, force restarting your iPhone is the fastest way to restart your iPhone if it’s acting up.
How to Reset iPhone XR XS And XS Max
- Press and release the Volume Up button as quickly as possible.
- Press and release the Volume Down button as quickly as possible.
- Keep pressing and holding the Side button until the Apple logo appears on your screen, then release the Side key.
During this process, you will notice a slider that allows you to turn off your iPhone. To avoid being distracted, keep the Side button pressed until the screen turns completely black. After that, the Apple logo will appear on the screen, and the screen will become active once more after the restart has been completed. Using the force restart procedure saves you the trouble of having to shut down your iPhone completely, which requires several additional steps.
The Shutdown option can be found in the General section of the Settings app, which can be reached by scrolling down to the bottom and selecting it from the drop-down menu. You can also bring up the Emergency SOS interface by holding down the Volume Up button and the Side button at the same time. This interface also includes a “slide to power off” option.
